Update from my last post, it turns out that Dex didn't have an ear infection, but his fascination with them has gotten a little worse, but its not like he is in pain. He will flip them when he is tired or going to sleep. Its quite funny.
So I have been thinking a lot lately about some of my friends back home. I always think about them but lately it has been a lot more than usual. My best friend is having her baby shower the 30th, and I wish I could be there. I was wanting to fly down for a few days but I didn't realize that the weekend of her baby shower I promised I would watch Shane's little brother and sisters for his mom so she can go to Washington State to see his big sister and her other grandkids up there. I know that the 30th is a weekend and his dad is off on weekends, but if i were able to go I would come back on like the 5th or 6th of May, and his mom isn't coming back until the 3rd which is a Tuesday and nobody would be there to watch the kids. Oh well!
Dexter is almost 9 months old, and he is pulling up and trying to walk on his own. He is so tiny looking when he tries to walk like a big boy. It doesn't seem like by 6 lb 11 oz baby boy should be that big. I guess they grow up and there is nothing I can do about that.
He has 4 teeth, his 2 tops are starting to come in and you can feel the sharp little things. He will grit his teeth together and they will make that awful sound. I know it has to be painful for him growing 2 at a time, but that noise drives me nuts.
We got a metal detector and have been finding some pretty cool stuff in our back yard, I think if its nice this weekend we may go to the beach and try it out there. Anyways, I just wanted to update a little bit, but now I have to give little man a bath, so I will write a little more later. :-)
Living my life with my husband, our 3 year old son, and newborn daughter (In August). I started this to be about my son and his adventures, stepped away from blogging for a while, and reconnected with it, and LOVE it. I don't try to be funny, I don't try to make up stories, everything written here is my life, my really real life, sometimes its sad, sometimes it's weird, but when you are life training a tiny human, there is never a dull moment.

Otters and Ear Infections.
Mom is here in NY this week. She arrived on Wednesday and leaves Tuesday. We have been busy laughing and playing with Dexter. Actually with Dexter crawling and mom running up and down the stairs to her room she must be getting quite the work out. I think she loves it here. I love having her here. Its something I feel that we both needed with an upcoming difficult time ahead of us both. April and May is hard for everyone in our family so it is good to be here with her and Dexter and Shane and be able to see them laugh and play.
Shane and I think Dexter might be getting an ear infection. He has been pulling at his ears, mostly his left one but sometimes the right. At first I thought that he might have just now found them because feeling something strange on the side of your head could keep drawing someones attention to it, but then this morning he was kind of crying when he was holding it, so I am thinking infection now. Poor baby. Good thing our insurance kicked in today. YAY!! I guess we will be going to the doctor next week after mom leaves. Unless she wants to go with me to the doctor with him and get checked out on Monday.
Today I took her to Sodus Bay lighthouse. I know she has always loved lighthouses. Since Dex is kinda puny I stayed in the car with him while she walked out on the pier and to the lighthouse in the cold wetness. She took some amazing pictures. As she was walking back to the car she jumped off the peir onto the beach and almost stepped on an Otter. Yes, an Otter. He kinda spazzed out and dove into the water, but not before she could get a picture of it. It was a crazy day. I just wanted to update a little. Dexter is yelling for a bottle now so I am going to go and get him set up for an afternoon nap.
Good Day everyone. (PS. The Otter thing isn't an April Fools either. It really happened)

There is Dexters blog. I think he is telling about how he went to school today and how he took a nap already and had some coffee and got his foot stuck in a hanger. Quite a morning if you ask me.

Dexter's updates.
When I first brought Dexter home from the hospital, I thought having a newborn was the hardest thing ever. Waking up every few hours to feed him, not getting sleep, making sure he wasn't face down when I layed him on his tummy. Pretty difficult stuff.
Well I have come to the conclusion that having a pre-toddler is worse than a newborn. He is into EVERYTHING!!! The dogs food, under the tables, stuck behind the couch, trying to get the playstation cords, trying to get any cords in general, trying to get the remote, if he can't get to that he will change the channel on the DVR box. Crawling into walls, door frames, dressers. Throwing a fit when he is sitting up and bumping his head on the ground. And all this happened within a 2 hour time frame. He is a handful. But he is my little handful and I love him more than anything.
He had 2 bottom teeth that came in within days of each other, and those suckers are sharp. He will bite the piss out of you. I am scared to hand feed him food. So I let him do it himself. He hasn't bitten himself yet, but I know its coming and it will be funny.
He is going through a phase where, I will tell him NO NO and he will of course keep on doing what I told him not to, so I will pat his hand or leg and say NO NO and he will "faint" in the floor, face down, and just lay there for a second. Well the other day he did that and he layed there for maybe 5 minutes, and I thought aww I hurt his feelings. I felt horrible. So I went to pick him up and say sorry, well he had a lady bug smashed in his hand and the remains of another one around his mouth. He wasn't upset at all that I got onto him, he was eating lady bugs. Oh well.
He is 22.5 pounds as of yesterday. I finally bought a bathroom scale, and weighed him. He is a big guy. I know babies that are a year old and weigh less than he does. He's just big boned. I had to install his big boy carseat yesterday. His infant one only holds up to 18 pounds, he loves his big carseat, he can see out the back window now and LOVES looking outside, as long as there aren't any birds to scare him. Well on that note I am going to go, he is in the living room and it is awefully quite.......

A burglar.
This morning I was startled awake when Shane told me goodbye, as he was leaving for work. I was sleeping so good that I didn't even hear his alarm clock go off. Since I was kind of (A LOT) scared to go back to sleep, I put Dexter in bed next to me, and turned on the TV. Did you guys know that on Nickelodeon, Rugrats is on at 7:00 in the morning? That was my favorite show when I was a kid. Finally after watching some classic Rugrats, I fell back asleep until about 9:00. Dexter was still sleeping soundly so I got up to get ready. As I was trying to find a pair of jeans in the dark I heard a loud "THUD" coming from my kitchen. Naturally I thought "OMG.. someone is trying to break in!" That can't really be the case because I don't have very many neighbors, and I highly doubt anyone would want to break into my house, when they see my car in the drive way, and when it's mid morning. So I put on my brave face and investigate. I look around the living room, nothing disturbed there, I look at the doors, everything is locked up tight, when I go into the kitchen that is when I notice the window, its smudged, as I get closer I notice that the "smudge" is actually feathers. I panic, thinking that one of my beloved woodland creatures has perished. I see no bird on the ground, and later that day all the birds kept coming to my window feeder, so it must not have been that bad, but poor thing. I felt horrible, horrible enough to take a picture of the crime scene. :-)

Oklahoma.
I figured I would tell everyone about our trip to Oklahoma. We arrived on Feb. 4th because of the snow. We were supposed to arrive on the 3rd but because of all the snow we were delayed. Dexter did really well on the plane, he slept most of the way except for about 10 minutes of each flight when he would wake up and play, then sleep while we landed. On the first flight, I sat by this Japanese lady, who spoke about as much English as I speak Japanese, (which isn't much), and so she is talking to me through her broken "Engrish", needless to say Dexter was horrified. He cried and looked at her like she was so weird, and she kept saying "Ohh bebe."
Once we got there, Tulsa looked like New York, I thought the plane from Chicago took us back home. It was so crazy how much snow Oklahoma had gotten. It was the most snow I have ever seen. Dexter and I got to visit will everyone from our PD friends, to a few of my high school friends. He had a blast, and I can't wait to come back for another visit.
Oh the way back home, I had kind of a hard time. I flew from Tulsa to Chicago O'hare, from O'hare to Laguardia, Laguardia to Syracuse. The maps of the airport terminal in the back of the "skymall" magazine look alot closer than they actually are. It looked like my gate to my next O'hare flight was right around the corner, which it was, and down 2 levels, and through the waredrobe, past Narnia and back to Oz. I had to run. I arrived right to my gate as Dexter was screaming for lunch and as they were boarding "Final Call for flight 366 to Laguardia." It was intense.
Once on the plane, everyone I passed was thinking "DON'T SIT NEXT TO ME!!" But the man that we did sit by was impressed with how well Dex was on the flight. We had to share a tray table because Dex was sleep in my lap and the table would have squished him. I'm not a fan of sharing a tray table with a stranger. I felt as if he would poision my drink, and of course my writers mind started working, and I kept thinking of how he would poision me and steal my baby. I kept thinking "Dingo took my baby!!" Anyways.... We sat right by the engine too. Which was cool, until I thought "Oh God, what if the engine flies off it rips open my side of the aircraft, and I almost get sucked out of the plane?" But then I quickly decieded that Dr. Poision my drink would be a gonner before I was because my ninja skills would kick in and I would leap seats.
After my anxiety subsided, we began to decend into NYC. Mom told me to look for the Statue of Liberty while landing, which I thought would be cool to see so I was looking. Then I saw her and all her beauty, there was even a boat circling the island doing a tour, as our plane came closer and closer to the ground, I realized my "Lady Liberty" was nothing but a green booey, blocking the "No Wake" zone.
Laguardia is a scary place. It looks like you are landing on water until the wheels hit the ground. Then if you switch airlines you have to take a shuttle to the different terminal building, go through security again, and all that jazz. Thank God my flight was delayed and didnt actually arrive until 6:40, (it was supposed to leave at 6:00 and I would have missed it.)
Finally we made it home, and now I am sitting here blogging while Shane is wanting to watch a movie. HAHA, I guess I'll go and watch a movie since I did pick it and all.
I enjoyed my visit, and now I am happy to be home. All is well in NY!!!
